What is Harleys for Helicopters?

Harleys for Helicopters (H4H) evolved in September of 2001. It is the brainchild of David Golledge who had a vision to get a few mates together on their Harleys and go for a ride to raise some money for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. What was initially going to be a great ride for a few mates has now evolved into one of the most successful fundraising ventures for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.

After the idea was sanctioned by a somewhat hesitant WRHS, the concept expanded to a 3,500 kilometre ride around New South Wales over a two week period in February 2002. Although the venture grew far beyond the original concept, the objectives of the Ride never changed. These objectives are:

  • Raise Money for the WRHS
  • Have a Great Ride Whilst Raising the Money
  • Change Peoples Perception that Harley Riders Dressed in Black are of Questionable Character
  • Maximise exposure for sponsors

The Ride is organised by a Harleys for Helicopters Committee that is based in Newcastle, New South Wales. Harleys for Helicopters or H4H is an authorised support group of the Hunter Region SLSA Helicopter Rescue Service (Broadmeadow). This initial concept developed beyond expectations in a very short period of time, and is now one of the most productive, both financially and promotionally of all of the support groups for the service in Newcastle and New England regions.
